People who know me well should know that I am short-sighted. Thus, I always had my spectacles or contact lenses on. Since I am in Army now, spectacles would probably be the wise choice.
The incident started with, I came back from nights out, took a bath was lying down on the bed watching videos from my iPod touch. (without my specs on) My bunk mates was playing around with the broom stick, swinging here and there and it got hit onto my right eye!
Seriously, you can’t imagine that kind of impact and pain unless u try it on yourself which I don’t recommend. In case you guys isn’t aware of it that eyes is one of the most vulnerable part of humans and one of the most important senses that you would really need/have.
Back to square one, I got hit. Everything came just like a shot from a rifle. I was kneeling down the next minute, tears starting dripping out from my eyes non stop! My bunk mates (the culprit) gets worried, advising me with methods which he thinks is appropriated at that point of time. Example, lying down on the bed first, going to the bathroom to wash my eye, wait until tomorrow morning and observe the situation. Totally Stupid!

The first thing that came to mind after I got hit was to stay calm as what those drama shows taught me haha! Immediately, I packed my stuff, gotten everything I need because I knew I would probably be sent to the NUH.
Blah blah blah…the rest of the story is quite naggy thus I will shorten it. At first was camp mo and then to a 24hrs medical centre in another camp. After a long persuade by my sergeant and medic friend, the doctor decided to have me admitted to NUH A&E.
On the journey to NUH, my mind was not on my injured eye. I was thinking about hmmm…how would it be like? I reach NUH, a group of paramedics/nurse and a doctor will come out to handle my case just like those Hong Kong drama show? Haha! I was totally wrong! I need to even register myself at the A&E counter! What the! I thought the MO would at least inform NUH A&E department that a patient from SAF will be reaching soon in need for their assistance.
Alright, the good news is nothing is wrong with my right eye, lower lid abrasion and swollen. I was given a few painkillers & cream to apply. (Not to mention about the 2 days mc from them
) But I got my MC extended when I was back in camp the next day.
Just pure luck, nothing else. I always wear my specs for more than 12 hrs a day and for that 1hours when I wasn’t wearing it I got injure. My friend said I might/ might not be lucky. Who knows, if I were to wear my specs and get hit by the stick, the specs might break and fragments might piece through my eye cornea.
I’m really thankful to my medic friend. Actually, he is not really my friend. I only know him during BMT and he volunteer to accompany me to the 24hrs MO & NUH despite its already 1am++. (Ya la, not to mention about my sergeant as well. He’s already sick in the day and yet he still accompanied me throughout.)
